Applicants with a full, category B (car) driving license should have no more than three penalty points. All shortlisted applicants will need to attend an interview. Applicants must pass Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health checks before starting the course. The Department of Health requires all new Exposure Prone Procedures (EPP) workers, including students, are tested for HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. The consent, test and managed process of results will be carried out by our Occupational Health Department.

**Overview**
Paramedics are the frontline of the healthcare system. If you want to join them in helping people at their most critical time, this is the course for you.

This BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science degree course prepares for you for a challenging and rewarding career as a Paramedic. It gives you the medical knowledge and wide-ranging professional skills you need to be an effective first responder. On successful completion of the course you'll be eligible to apply to register as a Paramedic with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

**What you'll experience**
On this course you'll:
- Use professional facilities including our Centre for Simulation in Health and Care, where you’ll practice life-saving skills on manikins and experience clinical situations in a safe and supportive environment

- Work through scenarios you'll experience in your career, acting out examinations and treatments in our realistic bedded ward and our high-fidelity patient simulator

- Get more than 2,000 hours of practical experience in a variety of clinical settings, including community medicine, emergency departments, pathology, maternity, and critical care

- Enjoy support from a personal mentor from the ambulance service, and shadow trained paramedics and allied healthcare professionals

- Receive a Trust induction and full uniform from South Central Ambulance Service

**Careers and opportunities**
What can you do with a Paramedic Science degree?
At the end of the course you’ll be eligible to apply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for professional registration as a qualified Paramedic. Once registered you can work as a Paramedic in the public or private sector.
You can also continue your study or take on roles in other areas first response or teaching.
After you leave the University, you can get help, advice and support for up to 5 years from our Careers and Employability service as you advance in your career.

Year 3 core modules in this year include: Assessment and Care of the Older Adult, Enhancing Paramedic Professional Practice, Pathology & Therapeutics for Paramedics, Project.

Assessment methods

You’ll be assessed through tests (academic or practical/skills based), assignments, projects, academic written work/portfolios, objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), presentations, dissertation/project.
You’ll be able to test your skills and knowledge informally before you do assessments that count towards your final mark.
You can get feedback on all practice and formal assessments so you can improve in the future.

This subject covers a group of related subjects, like audiology, speech therapy and degrees associated with language development. Speech therapy dominates and most graduates in this group go into jobs as speech therapists.
