**Overview**

Do you have what it takes to plan, design, construct and manage large-scale building projects, from roads to skyscrapers?

On this BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degree course, you’ll get to grips with the theory, methods and skills needed for a career in civil engineering, in the city that gave the world Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

You’ll learn how to design, construct, operate and maintain the infrastructure that supports everything from buildings and transportation to public amenities.

This course is accredited by the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, the Institute of Highway Engineers, the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers.

The degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). This assures potential employers that you have the relevant skills and abilities you need to work in the civil engineering industry when you graduate. This gives you an edge over students who didn’t do an accredited course when you’re applying for jobs and further study.

This course fully meets the academic requirement for you to register as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and partially meets the requirement for Chartered Engineer (CEng). A programme of accredited Further Learning will be required to complete the educational base for CEng.

Modules

During your first year you will study fundamental engineering principles and be introduced to the key theories upon which civil engineering practice is based. In year two you will extend your understanding and ability to analyse complex civil engineering systems. You will learn how to design and model the behaviour of complex structural elements, analyse the performance of soils and major construction materials as well as apply mathematical, probabilistic and numerical techniques to civil engineering problems and many more. Your final year will build on all the knowledge you have acquired enabling you to analyse, design and manage civil engineering systems in an integrated manner. You will also complete your dissertation on a topic of your choice.
