Teaching takes place at the Warrington Campus.
Digital photography is one of the most dynamic mediums within the creative industries; it has become one of the dominant forces in shaping and defining contemporary society. Demand for the visual is at an optimum and never before has so much power been given to the still or moving digital image within our culture. Our unique undergraduate course focuses specifically on the use of digital technologies within the photographic industry.
Media Studies provides an opportunity to study the most influential and ubiquitous product of the 21st century. Many people, from audiences to governments, owners to distributors, seek to have influence over the media, to influence or control what we see, hear or read – and how. You will ask critical questions about the media industry and have the opportunity to develop a wide range of transferable abilities, which are welcome in many graduate roles.

Assessment methods

For Digital Photography, work is presented for submission in a variety of forms including: presentation, physical portfolio, online portfolio, still image, moving image, essay. Discussion also takes place within seminars and tutorials to support work for submission and assessment.
For Media Studies, there are a range of assessment forms, including essays, case studies, portfolios, presentations and some exams.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

A few years ago graduates from this subject were having a very hard time but things have improved a lot thanks to our active media, film and photographic industries - much the most common employers for this group. The most common jobs are in the arts — as photographers, audio-visual technicians, operators and designers, as directors, as artists and as graphic designers. Training in presenting sound and graphics is useful in other industries as well, so you can find graduates in journalism, in advertising, in business management, in events management and in web design and IT. Be aware that freelancing and self-employment is common in the arts, as are what is termed 'portfolio careers' — having several part-time jobs or commissions at once.
