Our Business Degrees with Foundation Year ensure you have the core knowledge and skills to start your academic journey. You'll be well-equipped for your studies and have a strong knowledge-base from which to build and excel in your chosen course.

All undergraduate degrees within the York Business School come with the opportunity to study a foundation year. Each foundation year is an integrated part of the degree programme and extends the 3 years of the traditional degree to 4 years.

The foundation year will suit those students who do not meet the standard entry criteria for the 3 year programme, but who wish to have the benefit of a University experience rather than study at College.

The programmes will suit mature learners returning to education as well as students completing level 3 (A level / BTEC etc) qualifications. In particular it may also suit students who lack confidence in their preparedness for University study.

As this is a University Course full Student Loans are available in the same way as they are for any of our 3 year degree programmes. It is also possible for students to undertake a year in industry, although this will increase the degree length to five years.

Modules

Modules
All students take four modules:

Business Enterprise
Developments in Business and Society
Foundations of Economic and Financial Analysis
Academic Skills and Personal Development
These modules are designed to provide the grounding in the knowledge the students require in order for them to progress on any of our degree programmes, while also providing the opportunity for students to transfer across our portfolio of courses.

Assessments are contextualised (where possible) to suit your subject area to ensure relevance to your programme of study.
