About this course

Course option

1year

Full-time | 2024

This course will support the continued development of personal attributes and qualities alongside the specialist knowledge and skills required to gain a senior role; enhancing practice within the wider childhood, education and care sector. Level 6 focuses on advanced critical thinking, developing higher level skills in research and analysis. Reflective thinking will be an essential element of level 6 with students exploring personal understanding of experiences, actions and processes and the impact on themselves, others and the wider sector. The course operates on a modular basis; the four modules are each 30 academic credits. Each credit taken equates to a total study time of around 10 hours. Total study time includes scheduled teaching, independent study, and assessment activity. Full-time students take modules worth 60 credits per semester, with all students requiring 120 credits to achieve the level 6.

You will be taught by an experienced teaching team whose expertise and knowledge are closely matched to the content of the modules on the course. The team lecturers both have industry experience alongside guest speakers providing an added layer of expertise

The full-time route is taught over either one day or two evenings per week and takes one year to complete, the part-time route is taught over either half a day or one evening per week and takes two years to complete. If you are interested in part time study please contact Yeovil College University Centre via [email protected].

This course is designed to allow students who already hold a relevant Level 5 qualification, such as a FdA, to 'top-up' to BA (Hons) level. If you are looking to study Childhood Studies, Care and Education at university level for the first time, you would need to study another qualification first. At Yeovil College University Centre, we offer the FdA Childhood Studies, Care and Education course, which can be completed first, before then topping-up using the BA (Hons) Childhood Studies, Care and Education.

**Work Experience and Placement**
A current role within an Early Years, Education or Family Support setting of 15 hours per week is strongly recommended.

**After the Course**
The qualification gained is a BA (Hons) Degree in Childhood Studies, Care and Education awarded by the University of Gloucestershire. Students progress into a range of destinations upon completing this course. Many undertake a Primary PGCE or other teaching qualification. Alternatively, you can progress into a range of careers, including managerial and higher level posts within the education and care sector. You can also progress into postgraduate study, such as a Master's Degree.

Post-six month graduation stats:

This is from the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey, based on responses from graduates who studied the same subject area here.

It offers a snapshot of what grads went on to do six months later, what they were earning on average, and whether they felt their degree helped them obtain a 'graduate role'. We calculate a mean rating to indicate if this is high, medium or low compared to other universities.
