Start your successful career with us. In your first year, you will gain knowledge and skills in business fundamentals; marketing, digital business, and finance, as well as gaining insights into your own personal effectiveness and emotional intelligence. In your second year, you will learn about integrated marketing communications, research, analytics, social networking and e-commerce, whilst continuing your development of employability skills. In your third year, you will learn about CRM, brand management, international marketing and innovation. In Year 2 and 3, you can also choose from a vast range of specialist business modules to make your course your own. Our diverse mix of specialist modules enables us to offer a choice in assessment methods including presentations, digital artefacts, portfolios and business reports ensuring a real-world insight into being in the workplace. Throughout your time with us, you will be supported by our close-knit community of experienced and enthusiastic academics and practitioners, as well as a Personal Academic Tutor who will stay with you throughout your studies to provide help and guidance.

Top job areas of graduates

Want to join a fast-moving, diverse industry that's at the cutting edge of tech? Try marketing! A lot of the jobs are in London, but graduates don't just go to work in advertising agencies — all sorts of industries do their own marketing these days, and with the rise of digital and mobile technology, a lot of marketing is done in quite innovative ways using a wide range of methods. Common industries (apart from advertising and PR) include recruitment, online retail, higher education, banking and IT. A lot of jobs in this industry are handled through recruitment agencies, so if you get in touch with them early, that might give you a headstart for some of the jobs available. But be careful — unpaid working is not the norm in the marketing industry, but it is more common than in most sectors.

Top job areas of graduates

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.
