You can study Beginners Chinese in combination with Global Communication, a new an exciting route unique to Westminster. Global Communication route offers analysis and practice of the competencies needed to enhance your communicative abilities in todays global society, where the workplace and the social space are no longer confined by national regional or cultural boundaries. The course builds from the personal to the professional. On a personal level it looks at the influences that shape our values and behaviour, and the dynamics of communication between individuals. At the professional level it analyses different organizational and communication models and brings the knowledge and competences gained in the first two years together in preparation for life beyond. Our Chinese modules fully integrate the study of language and culture and focus on applied language skills, which complement the skills you practice on the global communication route.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

Information services covers a broad range of degree options including librarianship and museum studies, which are usually only taken by a small number of students at first degree level. These areas tend to be much more popular at postgraduate level - and with a lot of competition for jobs in libraries and museums, most (but not all) of these jobs go to holders of Masters qualifications. What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

China plays an important role in world economics and politics, and business can be very interested in graduates with good Chinese language skills. In 2015, just over 180 degrees were awarded in this subject to UK graduates, so it is still an unusual and specialist degree to take - take that into consideration before drawing definitive conclusions from the data. About one in five graduates went on to further study (mostly at Masters level) and of those who were working, a quarter went to work abroad. Most of the rest were working in the UK after six months, mainly in London. But remember — whilst employers say they rate graduates who have more than one language, you need to have them as part of a whole package of good skills, even if that language is rare and valuable to business.
