This is a practically focused technical design course, where you will be trained and encouraged to develop the skills to undertake a professional role within the architecture industry.In a fast changing industry graduates will be enabled to undertake the specialist role in the formation, detailing and specifying of design proposals.Architectural technologists use their knowledge to make sure building designs work as intended. In contemporary architectural design it can be challenging to meet the needs of the client, community and environment. This means that design proposals and detailed decisions need expert professional judgement.This course covers the academic theory and principles of architectural design and technology, including building technologies, legislation and design. You will also develop your skills of building information modelling (BIM) and sustainable building technology, which are highly demanded by the modern construction industry.This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, ensuring that you earn a professional focused qualification.On successful completion of this course, you will be able to pursue a career as an architectural technologist in the construction industry. You will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required for this role, as well as for other design roles within the field of built environment.You may also wish to undertake postgraduate study to specialise in a subject you've already studied, or to explore something new.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

Architecture had a difficult time a few years back during the great recession, but those days are over and the degree is in demand as house building and infrastructure have increased in importance. Most working architects secure jobs in the architecture industry, more usually starting as assistants rather than full-blown architects or chartered technicians. Some, however, move into management, design or marketing roles, where they find their planning, design and project management skills are very welcome. Nearly half the architecture-related jobs last year were in London or the South-East, and this group are rather more likely than average to find their jobs through personal contacts, so polish your networking skills, or see if you can get work experience if you want to succeed as an architect.
