**The course**

Human health and the prevention of illness has never been so important. The population is growing and on average living longer than ever. However, healthspan has not increased at the same rate as lifespan. As a result health systems are increasingly under pressure to treat and manage the burden of disease including long term conditions. Advancements in the understanding of disease including new treatments coupled to increased awareness of the importance of physical and mental wellbeing in society creates a new emphasis on maintaining health as opposed to treating illness.

In response to this changing landscape, our innovative new undergraduate BSc course is a true integration of Warwick’s research and teaching expertise in the health and medical sciences creating a new opportunity to explore health from multiple perspectives, recognising that human health is influenced by multiple factors, requiring balancing and appreciation of different disciplinary approaches.

The course provides a broad foundation for lifelong learning with a strong emphasis on the development of applied knowledge, skills and professional values essential for work in strategic health promotion for individuals and society. Contemporary problems in health form the basis of the course curriculum and students are asked to transfer knowledge about local and global best-practice, strategic successes and stakeholder experiences to bring fresh ideas to management of problems and finding solutions.
