To assess student suitability for their chosen course we normally arrange interviews for all applicants at which your skills, achievements and life experience will be considered as well as your qualifications.
About this course
This course offers the opportunity to understand the legal structure governing all aspects of our lives today alongside an understanding of the public services and its organisational management. The course allows for development of leadership and management and understanding of corporate responsibility and strategic planning in the public sector. Public services and the third sector are the largest employers within Britain, which results in an increasing demand for graduate employment within these areas and this programme is relevant to those who will seek employment within the public service professions and follow careers such as police officers. The combination of both subjects allows for a greater depth of knowledge and the workings of Public Sector organisations which would prove invaluable for those seeking a fast track career into professions such as the police force.

Year 1-Level 4; Legal Process, Public Law, Criminal Law, APPD, The Public Sector Environment, Social Theory Policy and Practice. Year 2 - Level 5; Contract Law, Tort Law, EU Law, Accountability in the Public Sector, Terrorism and Public Services Response, Partnerships working and contemporary issues in the Public Sector. Year 3 -Level 6; Property Law, Equity and Trusts, Applied Legal Practice, Corporate social responsibility in the public sector, Choose 2 Public Service Options; Strategic Management for public organisations, Organisational leadership: theory into Practice, Emerging issues In Public Management and Governance, Management of Resources in the Public Sector, Research Project, Operational Policing OR Dissertation
Assessment methods
The course will be assessed by a mixture of written coursework and exams. Each module is worth 20 credits which would equal two assessments per module with the equivalent of a 2000 word assignment or an exam per 10 credits.

Top job areas of graduates
What do graduate employment figures really tell you?Just over 1,600 students graduated in social policy in 2015, which makes it one of the smaller social studies subjects. This is a popular subject at Masters level — 750 Masters in social policy were awarded last year - and so a lot of the more sought-after jobs in management and research tend to go to social policy graduates with postgraduate degrees. For those who leave university after their first degree, then jobs in social care (especially community and youth work) and education, the police, marketing and human resources and recruitment are popular — along with local government, although there are fewer of those jobs around than in the past. This degree is a bit less reliant on London for jobs than other similar subjects, so if you'd like to work outside the capital, it might be worth considering - although the jobs still tend to be in big cities.
