This degree will enable graduates to pursue an engineering career in a continuous improvement, planning, supervisory or project management role. It will develop your technological problem-solving skills and your organisational, planning and management abilities to enable you to successfully oversee complex engineering projects from start to finish. You will develop team working skills while undertaking a wide range of practical exercises in our state-of-the-art Centre of Engineering Excellence. Study abroad opportunities are available. Careers include quality assurance and control, operations and maintenance management, facilities, health and safety, teaching and environmental management in roles such as project engineer. Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement are the growth areas in the industry. UWS graduates work for companies including Rolls-Royce, Raytheon, Cummins, Thales, and BAE Systems. Others have begun careers in education as secondary school teachers and lecturers in colleges and universities. In recent years students have taken part in class visits to industry specialists such as BAE, Tata Steel and Diageo to further deepen their understanding of the subject. Year 2 Topics include CAD, processing methods and materials, facilities layout, process and equipment selection, engineering IT applications, and quality improvement tools. Years 3 & 4 Topics include advanced project management, engineering and change management, quality improvement methodologies, prototyping and product testing, industrial troubleshooting, operations management, renewable energy and health and safety. A major element of your final year focuses on group and individual industrial projects where you investigate a topic of interest and undertake industry visits to determine the validity of your project proposal. Career prospects UWS has a solid reputation for producing competent graduates who are sought after by industry. Careers include quality assurance and control, operations and maintenance management, facilities, health and safety, teaching and environmental management in roles such as project engineer. Placement/Work-based learning The programme is significantly practically-orientated, focusing on planning and the continuous improvement of engineering applications. You will develop your team working skills while undertaking a wide range of practical exercises in our state-of-the-art Centre of Engineering Excellence. Study abroad In Year 3 there are opportunities for UK students to study at a number of overseas institutions. Professional recognition Accreditation is being sought from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
