This degree will provide you with a strong knowledge base, skills and competencies to form a foundation from which managerial expertise can develop throughout your working life. The University of Stirling Management School has been awarded a Bronze Charter by the Small Business Charter in recognition of its active participation in supporting local economies through its work with start- ups and small businesses. Stirling Management School is committed to a research-led approach in all of its activities with all of our outputs being rated at an international level, and an impressive proportion deemed to be world leading. The Business Studies degree is highly rated. Our teaching staff are active in various areas of current management research. Research, therefore, informs their teaching, making it relevant to current debates within business. Computing Science courses at Stirling equip you with knowledge of the wide use of computers in business, industry and for personal use. Built around a core of software engineering and development you will learn about Computer Security and Forensics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Games and Mobile Phone App development, amongst other topics. From day one you will study the broad concerns of computing science: not only how to program computers (in Java) but computational thinking, the usability and accessibility of user interfaces, and social and professional issues. In your Honours year you will have the chance to pick a number of optional topics, which are regularly updated to be at the cutting edge of computing. These options are often related to research being done at Stirling. Current topics include Computer Security and Forensics, Web Services, Computing and the Brain, Modelling for Complex Systems. The opportunity to work with young adults to help them fulfil their potential must surely rank as one of the most important and influential roles anyone can take up as a career. What are the complex processes that underpin both learning and teaching within classrooms and other learning spaces? Choosing to study Secondary Education at Stirling will involve exploring these and other core pedagogical beliefs, issues and practices and lead to one of the most rewarding and challenging career choices available to any graduate. You will usually follow eight semesters (four years) which leads to an Honours degree in the chosen teaching subject(s) and Professional Education. Alternatively, seven semesters (three and a half years) lead either to a General degree, or to a Bachelors degree in Professional Education. General degree students may only be able to qualify in one teaching subject.
