International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP): The University of Southampton accepts the IBCP for entry to their degree programmes, recognising the value of combining academic skills with practical skills, providing a solid preparation for university level work. Offers will be made on the individual components of the IBCP. Applicants not taking the full IBCP but presenting with a combination of a Level 3 vocational qualification and IB Certificates may still be considered. Ocean sciences

Delve into marine ecosystems and ocean processes whilst exploring some of the most remote places on earth.

On your three-year Oceanography degree you will lear to use the latest technologies in molecular biology, high performance computing, and robotic sampling to address the key challenges facing the marine environment.

You will study at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), one of the world’s largest centres devoted to research, teaching and technology development in ocean and Earth science, where you will make use of the excellent teaching and cutting-edge research labs as well as our fleet of research vessels.

You will be taught by expert staff, many of whom are leaders in their research fields and are working on international projects covering a variety of different challenges from climate change to the exploitation of our oceans.

Fieldwork, practical skills and independent research are core parts of this programme. You’ll have the opportunity to:

- work in the field aboard the research vessel the RV Callista

- use laboratory analysis to examine our diverse marine environment

- develop computing and data analysis skills essential for research

- obtain qualifications in first aid and sea survival.
