D3, D3, M2 in three Principal subjects If taking a combination of Pre-U and A-Levels then 136 UCAS points made up of an A-Level plus Pre-U grades; for example A in A-Level Business + Pre U: D3 in Maths and M1 or M2 in Law, OR B in A-Level Business + Pre U: D3 in Maths and D3 in Law.

Southampton Business School requires all applicants to achieve at least a Grade 4 in English and Grade 6 in Mathematics GCSEs (taken in England) or a Grade C in English and B in Mathematics (where taken in Northern Ireland or Wales).

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Pass with 34 points overall including 17 at higher level, 5 in Maths (SL or HL), and English Syllabus A Standard or Higher Grade 4 or above English Syllabus B Standard Grade 6 or Higher Grade 4 or above Where A levels requirements are specified in specific subjects, applicants would be expected to offer these at Higher Level.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma

OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in Business is accepted if combined with one suitable A level with grade A. If your OCR is not in Business, we strongly suggest you contact us before applying.

OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma

DDD

If you are studying an OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in Business then this is accepted and we strongly suggest you contact us before applying if you are studying a different subject.

Accepted with Distinction if combined with two A levels with grades of AB. If the BTEC National Foundation Diploma is in Business, this is accepted but we strongly advise you to contact us directly before applying if you are studying another subject.

OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma

D

Distinction from an OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma combined with grade A's at A levels: D + AA or DD + A or DDD but care must be taken with subjects and restricted subjects which are Art & Design/Media/Performing Arts/Health & Social Care/IT/Sport/Digital Media/Laboratory Skills. As per our A level resticted subjects, we can only accept one restricted subject.

OCR Cambridge Technical Subsidiary Diploma

DD

DD plus one A level grade A OR if studying two Cambridge Technical Subsidiary Diplomas you will need DD in both of the Diplomas OCR Cambridge Technical Subsidiary Diploma in Business is accepted when combined with a suitable A level. If you are studying another subject in the OCR Cambridge Technical Foundation Diploma then we strongly suggest you contact us to see if this subject is accepted.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)

DD

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma is accepted if combined with one suitable A level with grade A. If you are studying a BTEC subject other than Business, we would suggest you contact us to enquire if the other subjects are suitable before applying. If you are studying two BTEC Level 3 National Diplomas care must be taken with restricted subjects.

This degree is designed to meet a growing need for graduates with a sound education in business and the specialist skills to help organisations understand their customers, forecast future demand and use big data to make effective decisions. You’ll learn to use industry-standard analytics software and develop the mathematical skills required to gain insights from a range of data sources, including the internet and social media data. In addition, this is one of the only UK business analytics BSc that includes a foundation in programming – a valuable skill for your future career. You’ll put your knowledge into practice at the end of the course by working on a project to address a real-world industry issue. Your learning will be informed by the expertise of our research-active academics, while input from industry ensures the course content meets today’s business needs.

Our academics use a range of methods to create a stimulating and interactive learning environment, including group work, case studies and problem-solving exercises, and practical training in management techniques.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

A specialist subject, and not surprisingly graduates tend to go into software engineering roles or related. The degree classification students achieved made a particular difference last year — computing graduates with the best grades were much less likely to be out of work after six months and employers can even rate a good grade as important as work experience. Most students do get jobs, though, and starting salaries are good — particularly in London, where average starting salaries for good graduates were getting towards £38k last year. Be aware that at the moment, recruitment agencies are much the most common way for graduates from this degree to get their first job, so it may be worth getting in touch with a few specialist agencies in advance of graduation if you take this degree to get a foot in the door.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

The business and research sectors worry that the UK hasn't got enough people with good statistics skills, and as stats are at the heart of so much of the economy, and we only have a few hundred graduates a year in the discipline, this type of degree can be very useful and versatile. The finance industry is very popular with this group, and they're far more likely to be working in London than most other graduates. And who can blame them — statistics graduates starting work in London were earning an average of nearly £29k just six months after leaving university. There is also demand from the Scottish finance sector in Edinburgh and Glasgow - particularly in banking and insurance. But a good statistician can find work almost anywhere that data can be analysed - which, in an online world, is almost anywhere - and many industries struggle to find enough statisticians to fulfil demand, so stay flexible and you can find a variety of options.
