Accountancy

The philosophy underpinning this course is to ensure that aspiring business leaders of the future have the in-depth knowledge, understanding and broad skill set required to succeed at the top level in a modern business environment. The integrated nature of the course will allow students with a combined interest in both the financial and managerial aspects of business to gain career advantage, and a competitive edge, by acquiring expertise at a substantial level in both areas. It is envisaged that expertise gained during the course will be evidenced by the acquisition of relevant professional body accreditation in both disciplines.

At each level of the course, students will study a combination of accounting and business management modules, enabling them to gain a truly integrated qualification.

On the accounting side, specified modules at each level will focus on two of the main sub-disciplines within the profession, namely financial accounting/reporting and the provision of internal management accounting information. At the final level, students will also have the opportunity to choose to study optional specialist modules, for example, audit and assurance and/or advanced financial reporting.

On the management side, modules will enable students to gain a broad understanding of key aspects of business management including business planning, implementation and growth, human resource management talent development, leadership and management development and business strategy. At the final level students will also have the opportunity to choose optional modules in the areas of ethics and sustainability and/or public relations and reputation management.

In addition, students will study modules intended to help them develop the practical skills required in modern business thereby enhancing future employment prospects.

Students will also have the opportunity to undertake practical work experience taking full advantage of the Universities links with local and national businesses and USW Exchange.
