Russian studies

This course encompasses Russian language, culture, history, and politics and is designed to build up a comprehensive understanding of this complex nation. This course is open to beginners as well as those with prior experience in Russian language, with teaching available for all levels. You may choose to further your language abilities by taking modules in Serbian/Croatian and Slovene and build modules covering southeast European studies into your degree, an option unique to Nottingham. A key element of this course is your third year spent in Russia, where you will be able to gain hands-on experience of this country that is essential in truly understanding Russia in the world today.

Modules

In year one, you will take a core language module for beginners in Russian or post A-level students. Students on the post A-level pathway may opt to study Serbian/Croatian or Slovene from year one. This option is open to all students from year two. In year two you will take a Russian language module to further develop your skills and prepare you for your year abroad, and modules in Russian and East European history, literature and culture, and you may continue your study of one of the optional languages, or opt to begin it if you have not already. Your third year is spent abroad in a Russian university of specialist language school. In year four your language modules will bring your Russian up to an advanced level.
