The Foundation Study Framework offers a new and exciting route into studying for a degree, attracting ambitious and driven students who are willing to learn and advance.

If you have non-standard qualifications or do not quite meet the admissions requirements for Fashion we can offer you a fantastic opportunity to study a four year Fashion programme which includes a Foundation Study Framework Year. The Foundation Study Framework will help you develop the theoretical/practical and academic skills you need, in order to successfully progress to the full award.

Featuring a reduced tuition fee in the first year, our four-year courses will enable you to successfully follow the degree pathway of your choice while gaining essential study skills. The foundation year of your chosen degree will be studied on a full-time basis and is aimed at supporting the transition to higher education. Years two, three and four are then studied as a standard degree programme.

Modules

**FOUNDATION STUDY FRAMEWORK:**

You will study two 40 credit modules that form the Foundation Study Framework. These are:

• Subject Studies 1: Practical and Study Skills – provides an introduction to key concepts, theories and principles associated with the area of study.

• Research for Practice – provides an overview of the principles of research, research methods and the learning environment of the University. It will also include an introduction to the academic languages of the subject and the learning experience of degree study.

These modules are delivered concurrently with 1 x Level 4 module from your programme:

• Fashion, Textiles and Leather: Concept.

Upon successful completion of these modules, you will progress to Stage One of BA (Hons) Fashion, in which you will receive further support through:

• Subject Studies 2: Working with Ideas – focuses specifically on the generation and development of ideas, building the key CAD skill sets, technical garment construction skills required by the programme.

In the remainder of Stage One, you will take 2 further modules from the BA (Hons) Fashion (Textiles for Fashion).

**STAGE TWO:**

• Design Practice: Research and Design Development Fashion/Leather/Footwear and Accessories and Printed Textiles

• Contextual Studies 2

• Visual Communication and Promotion

• Creative and Technical Exploration: Printed Textiles

**STAGE 3:**

• Design Context Communication

• Final Major Project

Want to work in a growing, creative sector where we are a world leader? Welcome to design! The UK has a proud reputation as a centre of design excellence, and last year just over 14,000 design degrees were awarded. At the moment, the jobs market looks a little better for fashion and textile designers, and not as good for multimedia or interactive designers — but that may change by the time you graduate. In general, design graduates are more likely than most to start their career in London, although that also varies by subject — last year fashion designers often found jobs in the North West, graphic designers in the South West, illustrators in the South West, East Anglia and Midlands, textile designers in the Midlands and the North West, and visual designers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Midlands.
