**Why study this course?**Our specialist Computer Games Development pathway will give you the knowledge and skills you need to have a successful career in the computer games industry. You will mostly focus on the programming and development of computer games, with some exposure to the entire lifecycle of computer game production. We will give you the opportunity to put your theory into practice in our computer lab.All computing students study the same modules in the first year, giving you flexibility and choice as you move onto the second year. These modules include software engineering, problem solving, programming, internet technology and games techniques. In your second and third years this will be developed further, with a particular focus on graphics, programming and mobile computing. You will examine the ethical considerations relevant to computer games development and how these may impacton future games development, as well as enhancing your statistical techniques and analysis methodology.These skills are particularly important when introducing new products into the market and consequently impact on the technical side of computer games development.In the second year there are two group projects where you will work to produce an innovative solution to a real world problem and in your final year you will complete an individual research dissertation.All of the teaching and learning materials that you will need will be available on NILE, our virtual learning environment. Although you can purchase course books, the core texts are available from the library in physical copies and online. All of the software you will be using on this course is free to download, but we encourage you to buy a large portable storage device (USB or HDD).
