The Foundation Study Framework will help you develop the technical grounding and academic skills you need, in order to successfully progress to the full award.The Foundation Study Framework provides a practical and group-based approach to learning that supports your development and your transition to Higher Education, whilst introducing you to key ideas and skills used by Architectural Technologists. Modules

**FOUNDATION STUDY FRAMEWORK:**

You will study 2 40 credit modules that form the Foundation Study Framework. These are:

• Subject Studies 1: Practical and Study Skills – provides an introduction to key concepts, theories and principles associated with the area of study.

• Research for Practice – provides an overview of the principles of research, research methods and the learning environment of the University. It will also include an introduction to the academic languages of the subject and the learning experience of degree study.

These modules are delivered concurrently with two Level 4 modules from your programme:

• Architectural Design

• The Architectural Technologist.

Upon successful completion of these modules, you will progress to Stage One of BSc Architectural Technology, in which you will receive further support through:

• Subject Studies 2: Working with Ideas – focuses specifically on the generation and development of ideas, building the key IT/ literacy/numeracy skill sets required by the programme.

In the remainder of Stage One, you will take 2 further 40 credit modules from the BSc Architectural Technology.

**STAGE TWO:**

• Practice, Regulations and Conventions in Architecture

• Technical Architectural Design

• Building Information Modelling

• Design Specification and Production Information

**STAGE THREE:**

• Modelling, Simulation and Visualisation

• Project Management in Architecture

• Final Major Project

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

Architecture had a difficult time a few years back during the great recession, but those days are over and the degree is in demand as house building and infrastructure have increased in importance. Most working architects secure jobs in the architecture industry, more usually starting as assistants rather than full-blown architects or chartered technicians. Some, however, move into management, design or marketing roles, where they find their planning, design and project management skills are very welcome. Nearly half the architecture-related jobs last year were in London or the South-East, and this group are rather more likely than average to find their jobs through personal contacts, so polish your networking skills, or see if you can get work experience if you want to succeed as an architect.
