Grades ABB. General Studies is welcomed but is not normally included as part of the standard offer.

Overall 60 credits are required with 45 at Level 3. Minimum of 15 credits with a Distinction grade, plus minimum of 30 credits with a Merit grade. All credits should be in a Humanities-related subject. We also consider other factors such as additional educational achievements, life experience and skills on an individual basis.

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

D3,M2,M2

We consider applicants offering Pre-U Principal Subjects, or a mix of Pre-U and A Level subjects, provided a minimum of three distinct subjects overall is taken. Please note our A-level requirements for grades and any subject requirements for this programme.  Pre-U equivalencies will be: AAA at A level = Candidates taking Pre-U principal subjects in conjunction with A levels are expected to achieve a combination of D3 in the Pre-U certificates and grade A at A level in three distinct subjects.   AAB at A level = Candidates taking Pre-U principal subjects in conjunction with A levels are expected to achieve a combination of D3, D3, M2 in the Pre-U and AAB at A level in three distinct subjects.   ABB at A level = Candidates taking Pre-U principal subjects in conjunction with A levels are expected to achieve a combination of D3, M2, M2 in the Pre-U and ABB at A level in three distinct subjects.

The University recognises the benefits of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the opportunities it provides for applicants to develop independent study and research skills. Although the Extended Project will not be included in the conditions of your offer, we strongly encourage you to provide information about the EPQ in your personal statement and at interview. A number of our academic Schools may also choose to take your performance in the EPQ into account should places be available in August for applicants who narrowly miss the entry grades for their chosen course.

This course offers you an exciting opportunity to work at the interface between theology, philosophy, and ethics. These disciplines have had a long history of interaction, productive engagement, and cross-fertilization, but also periods of mutual suspicion and critique.You will be provided with a rigorous grounding in the main areas of theological thinking and their significance for philosophical and ethical debates. A distinctive feature of the course is its focus on Continental Philosophy and Religious Philosophy, especially as they impact on Theology.You will study the thought of key theologians and philosophers and how they have shaped modern thinking about the role of religion in the world, and the ethical challenges faced by contemporary society.You will also acquire the skills to analyse key issues in theological and philosophical debate, identify the strengths and weaknesses of a variety of theological and philosophical theories, and construct your own arguments on a range of issues in theology, philosophy, and ethics.You will study in a recognised international centre of excellence, which holds a perfect score for the assessment of its teaching quality.

Theology can actually be a very vocational subject —by far the most common move for theology graduates is to go into the clergy and at the moment we have a serious shortage of people willing to go into what is one of the oldest graduate careers. If you want to study theology but don't want to follow a religious career, then there are plenty of options available. 2015 graduates went into all sorts of jobs requiring a degree, from education and community work, to marketing, HR and financial analysis. Postgraduate study is also popular — a lot of theology graduates train as teachers, or go into Masters or even doctoral study - where philosophy and law are very popular postgraduate subjects of study.
