Grades ABB plus GCSE in a Modern Foreign Language and Maths both grade B

Overall 60 credits are required with 45 at Merit grade at Level 3. Minimum of 15 credits in a modern foreign language. Where any subject is not available as part of the access course an A-level must be offered instead. Applicants must have Grade B at Maths GCSE. They must also EITHER have GCSE English language (at Grade C or higher), OR be able to demonstrate achievement at Level 2 (GCSE-equivalent) by, for example, having 6 credits in English language at Level 2. We also consider other factors such as additional educational achievements, life experience and skills on an individual basis.

Once AS-levels are uncoupled from A-levels, our subjects will no longer accept two AS-levels in lieu of one A-level. For those who took their AS-levels before the new system, then some subjects (but not all) will consider accepting them in lieu of an A-level - please contact us to ask if this is the case for the subject in which you are interested. Once AS-levels are uncoupled, we will no longer use them as an indication in determining whether a place will be offered. This is because they will not be available to all applicants and their use could therefore disadvantage those who were not able to take them.

Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate

We welcome and recognise the value of the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate and normally require two A Levels to be included within this. For applicants holding the newly reformed Advanced core (first teaching 2015), the grade required will normally be the same as the lowest A Level grade listed in the course entry requirements. We advise you to contact us if you require clarification on the acceptability of your specific portfolio of qualifications.

We consider applicants offering Pre-U Principal Subjects, or a mix of Pre-U and A Level subjects, provided a minimum of three distinct subjects overall is taken. Please note our A-level requirements for grades and any subject requirements for this programme.  Pre-U equivalencies will be: AAA at A level = Candidates taking Pre-U principal subjects in conjunction with A levels are expected to achieve a combination of D3 in the Pre-U certificates and grade A at A level in three distinct subjects.   AAB at A level = Candidates taking Pre-U principal subjects in conjunction with A levels are expected to achieve a combination of D3, D3, M2 in the Pre-U and AAB at A level in three distinct subjects.   ABB at A level = Candidates taking Pre-U principal subjects in conjunction with A levels are expected to achieve a combination of D3, M2, M2 in the Pre-U and ABB at A level in three distinct subjects.

The University recognises the benefits of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the opportunities it provides for applicants to develop independent study and research skills. Although the Extended Project will not be included in the conditions of your offer, we strongly encourage you to provide information about the EPQ in your personal statement and at interview. A number of our academic Schools may also choose to take your performance in the EPQ into account should places be available in August for applicants who narrowly miss the entry grades for their chosen course.

Entry requirements are based on achievement of the full Technical Diploma with grades DM plus an A Level at grade A in a Language or an essay-based subject such as English or History.

D

All applicants must have achieved National 5 English at Grade B.

Scottish Highers are accepted only in combination with Advanced Highers.

Provides a thorough grounding in the principles of business, management and economics, and their application in the workplace in both European and global contexts
This is a four-year course with the third year being spent abroad in a country where the language of study is spoken. It is possible to vary the focus on either business and management or Language Studies from year to year after the first year.
Students develop detailed knowledge of both the language and culture of Italy from the medieval period to the present day.
The range of culture units offered across all years of the programme combine the study of the history, politics, literary, linguistic and visual culture of the peninsula and are taught by a range of specialists within these fields.
We also offer a linguistics pathway through the degree programme for those interested in the history of the Italian language and its dialects.
Assessment comprises a variety of methods including coursework essays, commentaries, presentations and exams.Language courses, taught by native speakers, involve comprehension, translation, grammar, and oral work.
The third year of the programme is spent abroad in Italy. Our students can choose to complete work placements, teach English in schools as part of the British Council assistantship scheme, or take advantage of our wide variety of popular Erasmus exchanges, which include: Bergamo, Bologna, Cagliari, Ferrara, Macerata, Naples, Palermo, Perugia and Siena.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

This is one of the less common modern languages for students to take, but graduates from Italian courses have a lot of options available to them when they complete their degrees. About one in five graduates from 2015 got jobs overseas — often as English teachers — which is much higher than for most subjects, and higher than previous years. Nearly half of the rest went to work in London. Those who want to stay at home to work usually find jobs anywhere where good communication skills are a must — and in 2015, that included education, marketing and finance. But remember — whilst employers say they rate graduates who have more than one language, you need to have them as part of a whole package of good skills.
