The BA (Hons) Digital Marketing with Foundation Year is aimed at students who have an interest in developing knowledge and understanding of the key aspects of business and management, and in particular, who are looking to pursue a career in business management.

It seeks to give students a learning experience that allows them to develop proficiencies that create effective managerial behaviour in different organisations in today’s changing business environment. The curriculum and learning and teaching strategy are complemented by guest lectures and ‘live’ workshops to promote independent learning and increasing their employability skills for the future. This knowledge and skills will be further developed and expanded in the years following successful completion of the Foundation Year.

The degree programme is designed so that the Foundation Year provides an underpinning year, incorporating both academic and work/professional related learning, for applicants needing to improve their knowledge and understanding of business and its related skills. The year provides students with knowledge and understanding of the key aspects of business and management along with the necessary skills needed to participate in the undergraduate business programmes at levels 4, 5 and 6.This includes developing numeracy skills with the aim to develop students’ business mathematical knowledge and skills in a way which encourages confidence and appreciation of mathematics as a subject and providing students with the mathematical background necessary for business studies at undergraduate level. The Foundation Year also offers a literacy skills module that is designed to support students entering Higher Education at Level 3 wishing to progress to a bachelors in business.

Year 1 covers the foundation elements of business management and digital marketing. Years 2 and 3 covers digital marketing in more depth and in particular develops your employability skills. The programme provides the intellectual underpinnings required for a career in a rapidly changing work environment, a rigorous approach to self-awareness and personal development and a significant exposure to the world of work and its current demands through work experience opportunities.

BSc Digital Marketing is targeted at those students who wish to pursue their career in marketing especially Digital Marketing. This programme would equip them to respond to technological advancements and digitisation in the business world, which is generating huge demand for graduates who can make effective use of digital and social media platforms. This programme would provide them digital marketing techniques and concepts to be nimble and effective thinkers to effectively develop digital marketing strategy for organisations. Students will gain distinct digital marketing skills in this specialist programme, which will give them opportunities for employability and have career prospects in full spectrum of industries.

The emphasis in the course design has been to provide this strong business degree with a focus on employability. The degree seeks to inculcate in students many of the skills and competences in research, presentation, critical analysis, problem solving, team building and entrepreneurship, which all together should be helpful for future employment opportunities.

Modules

Students will study for four years with two semesters in each year. In the Foundation Year, students will take 3 modules in each semester, giving a total of 120 credits per year. In Years 1, 2, and 3 students will study three modules in each semester, making a total of 120 credits per year. Students may take an internship in the summer break before they enter their final year.

Assessment methods

Assessment is designed to meet the programme and module learning outcomes both academically and professionally in formative form including the preparation and feedback from seminars, workshops, tests and presentations, as well as in summative assessment that contributes to the grade, including assignment, group work/studies, project and exam. In particular, as is usual in the sector, this programme involves a considerable amount of group work and group assessment, i.e., as much as 25% of the assessment takes this form.
