**Creative direction draws on a myriad of 'visual culture' stimulus including photography, film, styling, and PR in order to promote fashion in various industry sectors – the media, retail, and branding to name a few. The role of a creative director is to define and develop the aesthetic of fashion, ranging from store visual merchandising, advertising and image making, to creative and digital content and customer communications.**

Fashion Creative Direction BA(Hons) gives you the skills and knowledge to develop your creativity and expertise within a commercial framework that directly reflects current fashion industry practice.

On this course you'll have the opportunity to -
- Use our resources and the cross-disciplinary environment to uniquely personalise your learning and develop a wide range of skills to help you become a confident player in the exciting fashion industry.

- Share first year modules with students on other fashion industry courses, enabling you to develop a broad understanding of the industry and the opportunities within it before focusing on your specialism. You'll then specialise in creative direction, exploring the subject from both a theoretical and commercial angle through a bespoke learning apparatus that is designed to immerse you in every aspect of the fashion industry.

- Monopolise on innovative and industry-focused projects that simulate industry practice to develop the experience you need. You'll be equipped to research new product and market opportunities, you'll learn how to solve problems quickly and creatively, to work collaboratively and manage relationships effectively, and to take the initiative and communicate professionally and effectively.

- Explore the function of creative direction within the international fashion industry, while completing a range of innovative projects designed to cultivate your creative skills and expand your fashion industry insight. You'll work across media on projects that include exhibitions, trend forecasting, publications, and creative development. The academic expertise here at Huddersfield will support you as you develop your skills in styling, creative concept development, photography, fashion film, and graphic design.

Reflecting industry practice is at the heart of this degree, and as such you will work collaboratively as well as individually on a variety of projects; in the past, for example, students have delivered exciting live projects for brands such as Coach, L.K. Bennett, Topshop, and Primark. Enriching your learning will be a series of field trips to exhibitions and other appropriate cultural and commercial events; these will complement your studies and inspire your ideas.

Want to work in a growing, creative sector where we are a world leader? Welcome to design! The UK has a proud reputation as a centre of design excellence, and last year just over 14,000 design degrees were awarded. At the moment, the jobs market looks a little better for fashion and textile designers, and not as good for multimedia or interactive designers — but that may change by the time you graduate. In general, design graduates are more likely than most to start their career in London, although that also varies by subject — last year fashion designers often found jobs in the North West, graphic designers in the South West, illustrators in the South West, East Anglia and Midlands, textile designers in the Midlands and the North West, and visual designers in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Midlands.
