**Our statistics and operational research degree provides the knowledge and skills to master the statistical modelling techniques used by professional statisticians and operational research specialists.**

Our mathematics courses are highly regarded, we are ranked 3rd in the UK in Mathematics for Student Satisfaction (Complete University Guide, 2022). Also, we are ranked 3rd in London overall, 1st for student satisfaction with the course, and also with feedback, and 2nd for student satisfaction with teaching (Guardian league table, 2022).

On this degree you will learn methods for data collection, analysis, interpretation, statistical estimation, statistical modelling and simulation. If you are an aspiring mathematics teacher, our Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme will enable you to gain classroom experience.

Career options for our graduates include market research, business analysis, forecasting and teaching. The course is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the UK's chartered professional body for mathematicians.

* Students on the BSc Hons Statistics and Operational Research have the opportunity to develop skills such as logical analysis, deduction, statistical modelling, decision making and data analysis

* You will learn to identify and analyse relevant data from different sources, improve problem-solving skills and acquire IT skills using specialist mathematical software packages

* Throughout, you will also learn how to apply mathematical concepts appropriately, relevant statistical methods and operational research techniques, and enhance your communication skills

The business and research sectors worry that the UK hasn't got enough people with good statistics skills, and as stats are at the heart of so much of the economy, and we only have a few hundred graduates a year in the discipline, this type of degree can be very useful and versatile. The finance industry is very popular with this group, and they're far more likely to be working in London than most other graduates. And who can blame them — statistics graduates starting work in London were earning an average of nearly £29k just six months after leaving university. There is also demand from the Scottish finance sector in Edinburgh and Glasgow - particularly in banking and insurance. But a good statistician can find work almost anywhere that data can be analysed - which, in an online world, is almost anywhere - and many industries struggle to find enough statisticians to fulfil demand, so stay flexible and you can find a variety of options.
