Public relations

London is a global hub for the PR and communications industry. We have strong connections with international PR experts, and our teaching staff will provide you with a valuable link to these professional networks.
You will learn how PR helps organisations to realise their strategies and manage their reputations. You will learn how to plan, implement and evaluate effective PR campaigns. You will gain skills in digital communications, writing, presenting and media relations. You may choose options in marketing or events management as well as developing specialist areas of PR expertise.
Experts from leading consultancies and companies such as Weber Shandwick and the BBC deliver guest lectures. You will also benefit from a vibrant PR student society and strong links with our alumni in the PR industry. Our students have secured placements at firms including Apple, Disney and Sony.
This degree is recognised by the Public Relations Consultants Association and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Successful graduates are eligible for the CIPR Advanced Certificate in Public Relations.

What careers could I pursue?
Graduates may pursue a variety of public relations roles across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. PR and communication skills are also applicable to careers in marketing, management and teaching. Recent graduates have secured roles at the BBC, Bell Pottinger, Gucci and Weber Shandwick.

We've got an internationally competitive marketing and PR sector and not surprisingly, that is the main industry head into after university. Nearly a third of publicity studies graduates from 2015 were working in London by 2015, but graduates don't just go to work in PR agencies — all sorts of organisations do their own publicity these days, and with the rise of digital and mobile technology and social media, a lot of marketing is done in quite innovative ways and there is serious demand for good PR staff. This year, a lot of the jobs that graduates got in PR and marketing were found through personal contacts and through recruitment agencies, so build up your contacts, and network your way to a job!
