**Why Sports Coaching?**
Our Sports Coaching degree builds advanced coaching skills, preparing you for a career in professional performance or community contexts. Gaining coaching expertise in one sporting area or across multiple sports, you’ll examine sports science themes including performance analysis, biomechanics and psychology. With opportunities to gain experience on placements with organisations such as Gloucester Rugby, West Bromwich Albion Football Club and England Netball, our graduates stand out from the crowd. You’ll also have the chance to gain National Governing Body UK Coaching Certificates (levels 1, 2 and 3) alongside your studies, to graduate as a qualified coach (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details).

You’ll draw on the experience of lecturers who are active sports coaches at community or national level, working with partners such as UK Coaching, GB Rowing, British Equestrian, GB Paralympic squads and the England and Wales Cricket Board. You’ll also learn from high-profile athletes, coaches and academic experts at our annual student sports coaching conference. You can take advantage of brand new sports facilities at our Oxstalls campus, including an international-standard sports arena, 3G pitches, dedicated pitches for rugby, hockey and football and a cricket pavilion and pitch. This is in addition to our state-of-the-art sport and exercise science labs, fitness suites and strength and conditioning facilities.

Modules

This course has a practical learning focus. You'll develop high-level expertise in sports coaching as well as sports science areas that support effective coaching such as performance analysis, biomechanics and psychology. Learn in our sports facilities at our Oxstalls campus with sports coaching students from all years. Facilities include a modern sports hall, all-weather pitch, astro-turf, mirrored sports studio, gym, physiology, bio-mechanics and bio-assessment labs, motion performance equipment, strength and conditioning and therapy suites and an environmental chamber.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

One of the fastest growing subjects in the country, the number of sports science graduates went from under 3,000 in 2003 to over 10,000 in 2013. Numbers have fallen slightly since 2015, but we still have over 9,000 graduates in the subject. However, the good news is the country's appetite for good health and fitness - and the adaptability of graduates in the subject - means that sports science grads are less likely than average to be out of work. Sports science graduates, not surprisingly, tend to get jobs in sport, fitness and health - coaching and teaching especially - but they're found all over the economy. Management and business are also popular options for graduates from this subject — and sports science graduates are particularly found where drive, determination and physical fitness are an advantage.
