Including Higher Level Biology grade 5, plus Standard Level Mathematics or Maths Studies grade 4 or above (if not taken at Higher Level). Maths in the IB is not required if you have already achieved GCSE Maths at grade C/4 or above or 4 in IB Middle Years Maths. We are happy to consider a combination of separate IB Diploma Programmes at both Higher and Standard Level. Exact offer levels will vary depending on the range of subjects being taken at higher and standard level, and the course applied for. Marine biology

You will train with internationally-recognised scientists using state-of-the-art learning environments and laboratories housing the latest equipment, while taking advantage of our wide range of fieldwork opportunities in the UK and overseas. In your first year, you will explore marine ecology on our rocky shore ecology residential field trip. You can immerse yourself in biodiversity studies during the optional coral reef expedition to Indonesia in your second year, before studying oceanography and marine conservation on an elective field trip to the Greek Mediterranean Islands in your final year.

Your education extends beyond the university campus. We support you in expanding your education through offering the opportunity to spend a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities. This four-year version of our degree allows you spend the third year abroad, or employed on a placement abroad, whilst otherwise remaining identical to the three-year course. Studying abroad allows you to experience other cultures and languages, to broaden your degree socially and academically, and to demonstrate to employers that you are mature, adaptable and organised.

With a placement on our Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme, you can work as a research assistant in one of our laboratories over the summer before embarking on your final year research project under the guidance of your academic supervisor. You will gain extensive professional skills to apply your knowledge in any field of modern marine biology. This will equip you with flexibility in your career choice, including the possible continuation of your studies for a Master's degree or at PhD level.
