Course description

The Marketing Management course offers you an opportunity to learn about a dynamic profession and study for a Professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Marketing. You will research a variety of industry-related topics and issues, and develop a range professional skills in preparation for employment. Teaching takes place at Queen's Park campus.

Modules

Level 1: Introduces students to the main functional areas of business, and develops key skills; typical subject areas include: marketing essentials; people management; managing the consumer environment; continuing professional development (CPD) skills; essentials of management; retail management. Level 2: Typical modules include: marketing in action; understanding the consumer; law and ethics; direct marketing; CPD in critical thinking; management in context; human resource management; work-based learning. Level 3: Provides students with the flexibility to become involved in more specialised areas of marketing, as well as the broader business and management topics; students study 3 subject areas: strategic marketing; CPD skills; and the research project; optional modules include: international marketing; marketing communications; contemporary issues in marketing; legal aspects: consumer; strategic finance, costs and values; SME management; legal aspects: employment; corporate communications management.

The marketing industry hasn't been as badly affected by the recession as many others, and so lots of graduates from all kinds of subjects go into it - with marketing graduates doing so more often than others. A lot of the jobs are in London, but graduates don't just go to work in advertising agencies. All sorts of industries do their own marketing these days, and with the rise of digital and mobile technology, a lot of marketing is done in quite innovative ways, using a wide range of methods. A lot of jobs in this industry are handled through recruitment agencies, so if you get in touch with them early, that might give you a headstart for some of the jobs available.
