About this course
The Department prides itself on its approachable staff and varied teaching strategies, which external examiners and current students consistently praise highly. In using a student-centred approach, the Department produces graduates with subject expertise and career potential. The practical and applied nature of the course is a major feature.
By the end of this combined course you will have had the opportunity to develop your language skills to a very high level as well as studied a range of cultural and historical contexts. You will also have had the chance to undertake exciting placements in Spain and or Latin America, to gain invaluable employment skills and knowledge of current affairs.

Assessment methods
Sports and Exercise Sciences - We use a wide portfolio of assessment methods, including examinations, essays, tests, presentations and laboratory practicals. These are designed to assess both academic knowledge and prepare students for specific, relevant vocations.
Spanish - You will be assessed in all four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as your ability to research and analyse. You will do this in a variety of formats: essays, role-plays, presentations, summaries, debates, portfolios, discussion papers, translations, projects, dissertation and exams.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?It's often said there's a shortage of modern language graduates, and graduates from Spanish courses have a lot of options available to them when they complete their courses. In 2015, nearly 1300 UK graduates got degrees in Spanish and the subject is seeing its popularity increase. About one in five got jobs overseas — often as English teachers. If you want to put your degree to work in the UK, teacher training is a common option, and businesses see Spanish-speaking countries as important markets, leading to graduate opportunities in marketing, human resources, sales and project management. But remember — whilst employers say they rate graduates who have more than one language, you need to have them as part of a whole package of good skills.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?One of the fastest growing subjects in the country, the number of sports science graduates went from under 3,000 in 2003 to over 10,000 in 2013. Numbers have fallen slightly since 2015, but we still have over 9,000 graduates in the subject. However, the good news is the country's appetite for good health and fitness - and the adaptability of graduates in the subject - means that sports science grads are less likely than average to be out of work. Sports science graduates, not surprisingly, tend to get jobs in sport, fitness and health - coaching and teaching especially - but they're found all over the economy. Management and business are also popular options for graduates from this subject — and sports science graduates are particularly found where drive, determination and physical fitness are an advantage.
