**Course Overview**

This foundation year builds on your mathematical skills, preparing you for entry onto the BSc (Hons) Mathematics degree.

**Why study with us**

- Throughout your degree you’ll expand your knowledge of the three strands of mathematics – pure, applied and statistics –and have the chance to explore specialist areas such as cryptology, fluid dynamics and mathematical biology.

- Our friendly lecturers are always available to help support you. They'll make sure you're ready to start the degree of your choice.

- There are opportunities to go on international field trips which have an educational purpose. Previous students have been as far afield as Benin in West Africa.

**What you'll do**

- You’ll study Foundation Maths modules and follow this up with either three physics or three computing modules.

- You’ll develop important transferable skills such as teamwork and communication - important to employers, and useful in your studies.

- Other key workplace skills you’ll acquire include analytical, investigative, problem-solving and self-management.

**Accreditations**

- This course is accredited by the IMA, the UK's learned and professional society for mathematics and its applications. The IMA award the Chartered Mathematician designation, which can be gained following further training and professional experience.

**Future Careers**

Your Foundation Entry Mathematics degree is a stepping stone to a career in a many sectors, including finance, banking and insurance, business consultancy and operational research.

Want to feel needed? This is one of the most flexible degrees of all and with so much of modern work being based on data, there are options everywhere for maths graduates. With all that training in handling figures, it's hardly surprising that a lot of maths graduates go into well-paid jobs in the IT or finance industries, and last year, a maths graduate in London could expect a very respectable average starting salary of £27k. And we're always short of teachers in maths, so that is an excellent option for anyone wanting to help the next generation. And if you want a research job, you'll want a doctorate — and a really good maths doctorate will get you all sorts of interest from academia and finance — and might secure some of the highest salaries going for new leavers from university.
