If youd like to work with children, young people and the services that support them, this course draws on subject areas including education, sociology, psychology, social policy and social work to give you a solid grounding for your career. Youll examine the services, systems, policies and work practices that relate to children and young people in schools, with families and in care settings. Youll carry out observational visits and work shadowing activities alongside the academic side of your degree, integrating theory, policy and practice so that you are well prepared for a rewarding career. Our graduates have secured jobs working in a range of settings across the spectrum of the Children and Young Peoples Workforce including childrens centres, schools, national charities, nurseries and family and community support. Our students have also gone on to obtain professional status in Teaching, Social Work and Early Years.

Modules

Year 1: Compulsory modules; Social Construction of Childhood, Communication and Social Media Skills in Social Care, Introduction to Children’s Services & Systems, Development across the Lifespan, Learning for Work in Children’s Services, Transitions in Children and Young People’s Lives.

Year 2: Compulsory modules; Researching with Children and Young People, Children’s Services & Systems 2, Safeguarding Children & Young People, Diversity and Inclusive Practice with Children and Young People, Learning for Work in Children’s Services - Consolidation & Continuing Development, Students are also required to select one optional module.

Year 3: You will be required to complete 4 prescribed modules: A Dissertation, Children’s Services and Systems 3 (Multi professional Working in Children’s Services), International Perspectives on Children’s Lives, Learning From Work in Children’s Services. Students are also required to select two optional modules.
