The role of coach or manager in football is one full of immense pressure, but with that comes potentially huge rewards.

Students on this programme will learn how to spot and develop talent, as well as lead with authority. You will engage with, and gain an understanding across, areas such as community coaching, academy coaching, semi-professional, professional and overseas coaching. Taught within the football club environment, the Football Coaching & Management degree qualification provides a unique learning experience and the opportunity to live, learn and develop within the live operations of a professional atmosphere, providing students with access to coaching at clubs across the football pyramid.

This degree provides lifelong learning and education to aspiring young football coaches and managers, as well as being the hub for football industry qualifications. You will receive high quality teaching, learning and coaching provision from professionals with backgrounds in academia and professional football. We aim to ensure that everyone on our Football Coaching & Management degree will gain the qualifications, skills and expertise needed for the maximum chance of success within the football industry.

Foundation Year Modules: Skills for Learning, Mental Wealth, Research Project, Contemporary Issues in Sport, Theory of Coaching, Principles of Coaching

Year 1 Modules: An Introduction to Football Coaching, An Introduction to Football Management, Industry Competencies (Mental Wealth), Football in the Community, Coaching and Skill Acquisition, Talent Development

Year 2 Modules: Scouting and Recruitment, Coaching Within Small Sided Games, Industry Readiness (Mental Wealth), Research Methods, Managing Teams and Individuals, The Reflective Coach

Year 3 Modules: Match Analysis, Coaching with Tactics and Strategies, Professional Project, Industry Engagement (Mental Wealth), Working in an Elite Environment

Assessment methods

A range of assessment types are used across the course, as appropriate to each module. Assessment is predominantly continuous, employing items that will include academic essays, reports, presentations, portfolios, reflective writing as well as practical coaching sessions. Applied assessment tasks are used as far as possible to enable students to link theory with practice, thereby assessing knowledge and understanding alongside subject-specific skills and key skills.
