Sport is big business. More people than ever now understand the link between an active lifestyle and good health, and are prepared to spend their time and money on sport-related activities. On UCB's Sports Management Top-up course, you'll gain the skills needed to succeed in the exciting sector of sports management, opening the doors to a wide variety of employment opportunities. We are a partner of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and our course is accredited by the University of Birmingham - one of the world's leading academic institutions - while you'll be supported in your studies by the use of UCB's brand new, state-of-the-art sports facilities.

**Who’s the course for?**

This course is designed for anyone who has previously studied a relevant subject and is interested in a career in sports management and related fields within the industry.

**Why should I study the course?**

- Our course will enable you to continue developing the academic and practical skills you need to prepare for a successful career in the sports industry, covering a wide variety of areas from sports coaching and PE teaching to leisure centre management and working with national governing bodies.

- As a UCB sports student, you'll have exclusive use of our brand new sports facilities and equipment at our new campus building, Moss House (opening in 2019), while you'll also be able to use the state-of-the-art all-weather pitch at Avery Fields.

- You'll work on your own research project, giving you the opportunity to critically analyse a particular area of sports management matching your career aims.

- Thanks to UCB's strong industry links, you'll also have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, while you'll also automatically become a student member of CIMSPA.

Our facilities include a fully-equipped gym and sports hall, fitness testing equipment, anatomical models and a human performance laboratory. Our new campus building, Moss House, will also feature a cutting-edge gym with the latest equipment and sports technology, and a 35-metre indoor running track to assess speed and performance.

You will also have use of the state-of-the-art all-weather pitch at Avery Fields, which we share with leading Birmingham rugby club Bournville RFC. The purpose-built, 15-acre site has undergone a £3 million transformation, with the pitch situated alongside two new grass pitches and an impressive clubhouse including a function room, modern changing facilities and a physiotherapy suite.

Our strong links within the sports industry will give you the chance to gain valuable work experience alongside your studies. Our hired@UCB employability team will assist you in finding relevant work to support your future career plans.

**What skills will I gain?**

You will gain the management and practical skills needed to make the most of business opportunities in sport, as well as an understanding of the operational and strategic issues in the industry, specifically relating to operating within an international environment.

You will develop the analytical, communication and decision-making skills vital for success in sports organisations.

The research project will hone your independent learning skills as well as giving you an in-depth knowledge of an industry subject relevant to your future career aspirations.

**What about the future?**

This course will prepare you to enter a range of areas within the sports management sector, while our graduates have gone on to work in sports tourism and marketing, on community sports programmes and in health promotion.

Assessment methods

Teaching is carried out by appropriately qualified and experienced lecturers and a typical teaching week will have up to 12 contact hours made up as follows:

- Large group teaching - 6 hours of lectures in lecture rooms
- Smaller group teaching - 3 hours of teaching in smaller groups
- Tutorials - 3 hours per week, including a mixture of personal, group and academic tutorials

**Individual Study**

In addition you are expected to commit to approximately 20 hours a week of your own study time in preparation for teaching sessions and preparing for and completing assessments. UCB Online provides 24 hour access to learning and support material.

**Assessment**

Assessment is designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your strengths in a number of ways, so a variety of assessment methods are used. An estimated breakdown of the assessment for this course is as follows:

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

This course sits in a wide group of smaller subjects that don't necessarily have that much in common - so bear this in mind when you look at any employment data. Most graduates took a hospitality, events management or tourism-related course, but there are a group of sports and leisure graduates in here as well who do different things.
