Cardiology

Cardiac Physiologists work with those suspected or known to have heart disease. This degree is ideal if you enjoy human biology and are interested in health and wellbeing. You should want to work with patients in specialised healthcare environments, be comfortable with technological equipment and be good at problem-solving.

Students on this course spend half their time at university and half on placements, preparing for the world of work. This course starts before normal University term time and has different leave entitlements.

**The degree will:**
- Equip you with the skills to work in the NHS or private sector.

- Provide transferable skills in team working, communication, problem-solving and analysis.

Cardiac physiologists now perform some tasks that were previously the remit of doctors.
This is an exciting and rapidly developing field that requires a high level of responsibility with many opportunities for specialist role extension following graduation.
The University has strong links with health boards with the nearest hospital next-door to the campus. You will also have the opportunity to use the College of Human and Health Sciences’ state-of-the-art facilities which offer realistic workplace experiences and learning resources including a clinical and technical skills centre and simulated clinical practice facilities.

- EMPLOYABILITY: 100% of Healthcare Science graduates are employed in a professional or managerial job 6 months after graduating (Unistats 2017)

- AVERAGE EARNINGS: The NHS starting salary for graduate Cardiac Physiologists is £24,000 (Band 5). Typical career earnings go up to £41,787. A significant proportion of our graduates now work in Band 6 and Band 7 (specialist) roles. A Consultant Audiologist can earn £100,431.

- ACCREDITATION: Accredited by the NSHCS (National School of Healthcare and Science) on behalf of Health Education England, for the purpose of eligibility for registration as a Healthcare Science Practitioner on the AHCS (Academy for Healthcare and Science) voluntary register.

- Graduates are also eligible to join the voluntary register with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists and are able to enter the workplace as an independent practitioner.
