The Education Foundation Year will offer an exciting introduction to higher education and is part of a 4-year undergraduate integrated degree. This foundation year will ideally suit those that need a little more support after further education before undertaking an undergraduate degree, or those returning to education after a gap.

The inclusive learning environment, delivered by an expert programme team, will meet your needs to feel comfortable at Swansea University. We are interested in your future and committed to supporting you to get where you want to be, and this foundation year will be a great place to start your journey in higher education.

The foundation programme offers exciting and innovative content in the modules that deal with the notion and understanding of what it is to be human. You will explore what it is to be human using the humanities and social sciences, including a great variety of theory and literature delivered by academics within your full degree subject area. A final year project supervised from a subject expert in the Education degree teaching team will allow you to explore an area of interest to you within your chosen discipline.

After progression from the foundation year, you will be joining a subject area which offers the study of education, psychology, philosophy, history, and the social sciences. You can explore policy and politics, leadership and management, educational practice in a digital age, learning and teaching, education in other countries, diversity and wellbeing in education, child development and educational neuroscience. You also have the opportunity to undertake work placements in organisations such as schools, local authorities, business and charities to enhance your student experience and your career prospects.

Some 94% of UK Education graduates overall are in employment or in further study six months after graduation (DHLE 2016). Our Education degree provides an ideal route into careers such as early years teaching, play therapy, teaching English as a foreign language, education administration, community development work, education research, and roles in local authorities, community education and education publishing. It also opens up potential careers in education departments in museums, galleries and theatres, local and national government and social services. To become a teacher, you will need an additional ITE/PGCE qualification.

Based on our stunning Singleton Park campus, in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, the course will give you a thorough understanding of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
