The Foundation degree in Theatre and Performance is a highly practical degree that has been designed to provide you with the skills, practical experience and knowledge to seek a range of possible employment opportunities within the theatre and performance industry.

The degree incorporates elements of drama, movement, and visual theatre, with a strong emphasis on multi-disciplinary practices and the integration of new technologies into live performance. Whilst the practical assessment in the first year is largely performance based, there is opportunity to move into a more technical or directorial role during the second year.

Excellent links with the region’s thriving performance industry, provides you with a number of opportunities to showcase your talent, through collaborative work with theatres and community projects. Alongside your fellow students, lecturers and other creative organisations, you can create and work on live performances for a range of audiences. You can expect to graduate with the appropriate skills to succeed in a wide range of roles within theatre and associated industries.

Assessment methods

Assessments are varied and designed to ensure you acquire a range of skills, particularly those required by industry. You will engage in group critiques, seminar presentations, essays and one-to-one tutorial support sessions, which will offer verbal feedback via an on-going basis throughout the academic year. A final year show in the third year will allow you to display your work to a wider audience, including influential industry advocates.
