Do you have a creative vision and want to develop your ability to produce broadcast ready programming? With first-class facilities, opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience, and a reputation for producing employable television graduates, Solent University’s post-production for film and television degree will help provide you with the specialist skills you’ll need for a creative post-production career.

As well as building a broad knowledge of the television industry, you’ll specialise in post-production and explore areas such as colour grading, sound design and mixing.

Because of its Skillset accreditation, the course is often two steps ahead of the industry norm. Students on the post-production for film and television degree can enjoy full access to the University’s specialist editing facilities, including over 70 Apple Mac workstations, supported by a state-of-the-art fibre optic network. Solent’s multi-million-pound Media Academy has specialist edit suites containing Mac Pro computers installed with Final Cut Pro and the full Adobe Creative Suite as standard, allowing 4K picture editing, colour grading and special effects work. Students have access to Avid and are encouraged to become an Avid Certified User, a professional qualification to further enhance their employability prospects. These features provide a high-quality post-production sound and picture-grading facility, capable of quality output to match and out-perform broadcast standards.

Solent University has one of the largest HD studios in the south of England, which can run up to 10 HD cameras and accommodate an audience of over 200 people – attracting industry-leading TV producers such as John Lloyd (QI). Students have full access to professional studio equipment including 4K and HD video cameras, DSLRs, a wide range of lenses, lighting rigs, dolly equipment and sound equipment for studio and location shoots.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

A few years ago graduates from this subject were having a very hard time but things have improved a lot thanks to our active media, film and photographic industries - much the most common employers for this group. The most common jobs are in the arts — as photographers, audio-visual technicians, operators and designers, as directors, as artists and as graphic designers. Training in presenting sound and graphics is useful in other industries as well, so you can find graduates in journalism, in advertising, in business management, in events management and in web design and IT. Be aware that freelancing and self-employment is common in the arts, as are what is termed 'portfolio careers' — having several part-time jobs or commissions at once.
