Hone your media production skills and prepare for a career in the creative industries on this three-year media, culture and production course. By undertaking assessed work experience and working on live client briefs, youll develop a thorough understanding of how creative media projects are managed and delivered. Upon graduation youll be well prepared to step into the workplace, having developed a portfolio of essential production and media management skills.The course is split into three separate strands, each covering a unique area of the curriculum. On the theory strand, youll examine a range of academic approaches and industry issues. These include global media markets, consumer habits and the construction of audiences.The production strand will see you getting hands-on with a range of professional media equipment, refining your production skills and building a portfolio of high-quality work. Youll work across a range of mediums and genres, creating original audio and video projects and managing the process from initial planning right through to post-production.Finally, the employability strand will give you the opportunity to apply your new skills. Youll undertake 100 hours of work experience before reflecting on your placement as part of a work-based learning unit. What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

The UK has a world-class media industry in film, print and broadcast media, worth billions to the economy, and employing thousands of new graduates every year, so it's hardly surprising that ambitious and talented graduates want to work in it. But be realistic — this is a highly-sought after industry and jobs are amongst the most competitive around. If you want to be a star in front of the camera or in print, you might want to look at other options. Media studies graduates are much the most likely graduates to get into the media industry (in 2015, one in five grads entering the film industry, and one in four getting jobs in TV or film production had a media studies degree) and they’re more likely to be in crucial roles directing, producing, or operating sound or video equipment, or in media research or marketing roles. Self-employment and freelancing is more common than for most degrees, so that may be something to prepare for.
