On this course, you’ll study for a year with other foundation students in Sheffield Business School, before starting an innovative, interdisciplinary financial technology course. When you graduate, you’ll have both the skillset and knowledge required to work with innovative, tech-focused firms.

**How you learn**
The course is suitable if you don't meet the entry requirements for our BSc (Hons) Financial Technology course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other Sheffield Business School foundation year students, then move on to the degree.

You discuss and critically evaluate real life scenarios. Learning takes place through a combination of timetabled contact sessions and guided/independent study, supported by superb facilities and learning materials, both physical and virtual.

**Applied learning**
**Work placements**
On the full degree, you will have the opportunity to undertake a year-long paid work placement in your third year. This gives you real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. Placements could take place anywhere from a bank, investment or wealth management firm to a finance department of a corporation. Recent placement providers have included Grant Thornton, Charles Stanley Wealth Management, Provident Financial, Lloyds Banking Group and Mercedes AMG.

**Live projects**
When you start the undergraduate course, you will work in a team on a 'live' consultancy project in conjunction with a client sourced by specialist teams at Sheffield Hallam University who work alongside private, public and third sector organisations. Your group will be expected to present its findings to the client and offer suggestions on how to solve the particular issue that the client raised with you at the beginning of the module.

**Networking opportunities**
With frequent guest lecturers from the likes of industry leaders, practitioners and academics from other institutions, and a valuable placement year, there is ample opportunity to make lasting contacts within the finance and banking industry.
