EITHER: 655 at Higher Level including Biology or Chemistry at grade 6 OR: 555 at Higher Level including: Biology or Chemistry; Another science subject from Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics; One other subject of your choice. Our standard offer is based on specific subject-grade requirements, rather than a total points score. Where candidates have not taken GCSEs or an equivalent qualification prior to IB, they will need a minimum of grade 5 in: SL Mathematics; SL English A Lang-Lit. Candidates from outside the UK may sit a separate English language test such as IELTS in place of the English A requirement above. Mathematical Studies and English A Literature or English B cannot be accepted in lieu of our English Language and Mathematics requirements, but can be taken on top of existing qualifications that meet our requirements.

The recession was tough on biology graduates, and although the jobs market has improved for them - a lot - it's still not back to where it was a few years ago. If you want a career in biology research — and a lot of biology students do - you'll need to take a doctorate, so give some thought as to where you might do it and how you might fund it (the government still funds doctorates for good students). A lot of graduates also take 1 year Masters courses to specialise in this wide and deep subject - most students take a standard biology course for their first degree and then specialise in subjects like ecology, conservation or marine biology later. Hospitals, universities, biotech firms, zoos and nature reserves and clinical and scientific testing are common industries of employment for biology graduates.
