Agricultural botany

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop creative design skills and innovative practice in the development of proposals of domestic and amenity landscape design. Students will also develop and understanding of historic garden conservation and management and approaches to historic garden restoration. Underpinning this is the development of skills in technical drawing, Computer Aided Design (CAD) horticultural management and business development.

The second year of study develops your professional skills in project and contract management and contemporary design. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and digital design technology is studied in our well-equipped Professional Design Studio. Knowledge of the subjects along with a focus on sustainable design solutions will equip you with professional skills and knowledge for a career as a garden designer or progression to landscape design and management.

The course features:
- Participate in real projects including RHS Tatton Flower Show

- Direct learning from the industry through guest speakers, site visits and study tours

- Study in our stunning landscape grounds around an original 17th century manor house

- European study tours and visits to historic and contemporary gardens

- Drawing suites.

Assessment methods

Assessments are designed to encourage both academic skills and skills valued in the workplace. They include a combination of coursework and examinations. Coursework may take many forms including: essays, reports, data processing, presentations, academic posters, seminar discussions, interviews, critical reviews, portfolios of evidence and practical competency assessments. The examinations vary, depending on the nature of the module, but may take the form of multiple-choice papers, essays, practical assessments, data handling questions, short answer quizzes, and in class examinations.
