Modules

In your first year, you’ll focus on the knowledge, skills and understanding to teach children and explore how children learn and develop. You’ll study modules in your specialist subject, core and foundation subjects, and education studies. You’ll gain practical experience of the classroom with two-week and five-week school placements across the primary age range, working beside a fellow BEd student, as well as a one-week 'saturation placement' linked to the foundation subjects.

In your second year, you’ll build on your growing knowledge and expertise, particularly in English and special educational needs. Classroom experience will come from a four-week 'paired' school experience, a three-week school experience linked to the core subjects, and a one-week 'saturation placement' related to English, allowing you to develop your understanding of professionalism and professional identity.

In your final year, you’ll develop your subject specialism and leadership skills, as well as producing your teaching dissertation. You’ll reflect on your professional identity and how to shape your teaching practice for the future. And you’ll gain significant practical experience on an eight-week school experience, where you’ll take full responsibility for the age phase in your chosen pathway. You’ll also have extensive support in obtaining, and preparing for, your first post.
