In addition to a broad-based understanding of business, this course highlights the importance of accounting and finance within an organisation. You will examine and develop core disciplines that are valued highly by employers. This degree gives you accreditation towards accounting examinations from professional bodies ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA and ICAEW.

Our BA (Hons) Business Management Joint Honours courses have Dual Award status with the Chartered Management Institute, which means you will gain a CMI qualification in addition to your degree.

The flexible nature of our courses means that you have the option to transfer between our Business Management Joint Honours courses after the first year.

Nottingham Business School at NTU is EQUIS and AACSB accredited, ranked 11th in the UK for Business according to the Guardian league table 2020 and 28th / 121 in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

Modules

Year One: Six core modules.

Year Two: Three core modules, plus two specialist modules and one optional module. Full-time students have the option to replace the specialist and optional modules with a unique half-year opportunity, which include studying abroad, setting up an enterprise, and an industry internship.

Year Three: Placement year for students on the four-year course.

Final Year: Five core modules plus one optional module. Throughout the course a wide range of modules cover all areas of Business Management as well as modules more specific to Accounting and Finance, including Accounting and Finance for Managers, Corporate Finance, Financial Management and Accounting in its Organisational Context.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

You don't have to be an accountant if you take this degree, but over half of graduates take a look at the rewards on offer for accountancy trainees and go into the job. Many others go into other parts of the finance industry as advisors or book-keepers, and some go into management or marketing. London is very popular for accountancy graduates going into their first job, but it's also quite common to work in Scotland, with Glasgow a perennial hotbed of Scottish accountancy recruitment. If you want to find a job in finance as an accountancy graduates, recruitment agencies were particularly important last year, so try to get in touch with one as soon as you can to improve your chances.
