Course description

Looking to join a graduate training scheme or pursue a graduate career in human resources? This four year course combines broad-based business modules with specialist studies in Human Resource Management (HRM) that run throughout the course and represent around 50% of the degree. The course has a very successful track record with 100% of students going on to work or further study within six months, and with 90% of those in work being in a professional or managerial job (Unistats 2015). The course lasts four years because, between your second and final years, you’ll spend a compulsory year on a work placement or studying in another country. The course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. We’re also undergoing a full re-accreditation process with EPAS who require some of the highest levels of relevance, rigour and internationalisation.

This subject is much more common at postgraduate level, and so be aware that many of the good jobs in HR and personnel management go to graduates with Masters or other postgraduate qualifications in this subject. Work experience for first degree graduates can help to get around the lack of postgraduate qualifications, but if you want to go into management you might find that Masters to be an advantage.
