Marketing

Looking to join a graduate training scheme or land a graduate job in marketing? This course combines broad-based business modules with specialist studies in marketing management that run throughout the course and represent around 50% of the degree. Specialist topics include marketing planning and research, buyer behaviour, integrated marketing communications and data-driven marketing.

The course lasts a compulsory four years as you’ll undertake a year-long work placement between your second and final years. Alternatively you can choose to take an international experience by studying in another country as an alternative to the placement. In the final year you’ll either undertake a dissertation in an area of marketing management or tackle a consultancy project as part of a team, addressing a genuine need of a client.

The course features three separate opportunities to shape your learning journey by selecting from optional modules such as digital marketing, business-to-business marketing, multichannel marketing and sport / fashion / music marketing. We have recently re-designed the course to be aligned with the standards of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing.

The programme builds on recent success in terms of student feedback, with 100% of students saying that staff can be contacted when needed and that they give sufficient advice and support. 94% say that staff are good at explaining things and are enthusiastic about what they are teaching, according to Unistats 2015.

The course is covered by the prestigious AACSB accreditation for Newcastle Business School, which was ‘Business School of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2015. We’re also undergoing a full re-accreditation process with EPAS who require some of the highest levels of relevance, rigour and internationalisation.

Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods, which may include lectures, seminars, problem-based workshops, case discussions, practical activities, group work and tutorials. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that will underpin your learning journey. You will have access to a Guidance Tutor with whom you can discuss any academic issues. Extensive feedback from both tutors and peers is built into the course.

Want to join a fast-moving, diverse industry that's at the cutting edge of tech? Try marketing! A lot of the jobs are in London, but graduates don't just go to work in advertising agencies — all sorts of industries do their own marketing these days, and with the rise of digital and mobile technology, a lot of marketing is done in quite innovative ways using a wide range of methods.
