Photography

If you have a passion for photography, this course will give you a solid foundation in technical and creative skills. With over 40 year of experience in educating photographers we have maintained a tradition of being highly practical while offering a well- considered blend of assignments and academic study. Working within a professional environment, you will learn how to use a range of equipment and technology. This will help you realise your potential to work and succeed within the Commercial photographic industry. Our BA Hons programme is a qualification intended to prepare graduates for employment within the advertising and commercial world of Photography. This course has been designed in consultation with professional practitioners and industry partners. It includes work based learning and placements, which are supported by academic study. You will undertake a variety of industry linked projects and live briefs with employers, giving you valuable experience of working within the Photographic industry. Work placements with local photographers, agencies and publications provide the opportunity to develop your skills and gain valuable work experience. We have industry links with Barbour, End Clothing, Hanger Seven Studios and Alex Telfer Photography. There are also opportunities for study tours, seminars and project linked professional visits. Graduates are now working as photographers’ assistants, digital operators, stylists, freelance photographers, set builders, location finders, photography agents, and are employed across associated areas of the industry.

Year One: Professional Practice, Visual Communication, Photographic Studio Practice, History and Theory of Photography, Core Digital Skills, Location Practice. Year Two: Contemporary Contexts in Photography, Professional and Business Practice, Photographic Narrative Live project, Advanced Digital Skills. Year Three: Final Major Project Proposal, Specialist Practice Portfolio, Critical Research Project

Assessment methods

You will learn through a variety of teaching and learning methods including written practical assignments, presentations, peer work and independent study. You will also collate a portfolio of work to demonstrate evidence of the modules studied.
