English literature

Take advantage of the opportunity to study English literature in London – the birthplace of countless literary movements and authors. NCH offers courses which combine the broad historical assessment of literature common to traditional English degrees with a wider approach to where and how we encounter literary texts and cognate forms of art.

Studying English at NCH will teach you to analyse texts in both a creative and a technical manner. You will study rhetoric, stylistics, and learn to compare different text and other art forms. You will engage with literary criticism, as well as studying literature from 1550 to the present day.

Your English with Creative Writing BA will enable you to develop your skills in analysing and creating literature. You’ll learn how writers have responded to their contexts, cultures, and the literature of their contemporaries. You’ll gain the tools and confidence to develop your creative responses to your cultural situation, and will find yourself approaching a diverse range of literary forms from both a critical and creative perspective.
