The BEng Manufacturing courses are IMechE and IET accredited and provide an ideal platform for graduate engineers to enter professional careers across a wide range of different manufacturing industrial sectors.The application of engineering and manufacturing engineering principles to the solution of industrial problems is a strong theme, reflecting the requirements of the Engineering Council for accredited programmes.The courses consider issues of manufacturing technology and processing, linked to manufacturing management, and provide an excellent platform for graduates wishing to register with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer or to progress to Chartered Engineer status after further academic learning. The transferable skills which graduates develop should also suit them to employment and career routes in a wide variety of professions.If you choose to follow the BEng sandwich course you will complete a full year of assessed IMechE accredited industrial training between years 2 and 3 of your academic studies, leading to the additional award of Loughboroughs well respected Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS).

Assessment methods

Teaching and learning methods include lectures, tutorials, practical work, seminars and extensive project work. The emphasis is placed on increasing your independence and encouraging you to develop your study skills while taking part in group activities.

Lecture based modules are assessed by a combination of coursework and formal examinations taken at the end of each semester. Project module assessments require written reports and technical presentations, preparing you for your subsequent career.

The proportion of coursework assessment is approximately 30% to 50% depending on degree course, semester/year and optional modules.

Graduates are in significant demand, so unemployment rates are well below the national graduate average and starting salaries are well above average. Much the most common industries for these graduates are now vehicle manufacture - there are not enough people with these degrees to go round and so the big employers tend to take the lion's share at the moment. But pretty much anywhere there is manufacturing, there are production engineers. Bear in mind that a lot of courses are four years long, and lead to an MEng qualification — this is necessary if you want to become a Chartered Engineer.
