We consider applicants offering Pre-U Principal Subjects or a combination of the Pre-U and A levels, provided a minimum of three subjects overall are taken. Our BSc Information Technology Management for Business degree has been designed in partnership with some of the world's leading employers to prepare students for a successful career developing, managing or using IT systems and is related to the department's Computing and Management degree.

Our Information Technology Management for Business (ITMB) degree covers a vibrant mix of transferable skills and knowledge for those who want exciting and challenging management or professional careers designing, developing and implementing technology solutions for businesses.

The ITMB degree was designed to offer an insight into the real world of IT. It allows you to learn the people and project management skills required to be a successful IT professional. You will learn to evaluate and understand technology and its role within business and to gain practical experience working on real world business challenges. It is taught in conjunction with the School of Business and Economics to provide the essential mix of expert teaching and support for you to become a professional in an industry where this combination of skills is in high demand.

Assessment methods

Depending on the nature of the material, some modules are assessed by a mixture of coursework and examination (for example 25% coursework and 75% examination), whilst other modules are assessed by 100% coursework or 100% by examination. Coursework is based on a variety of tasks including programming, individual reports, projects, laboratory work, contribution in tutorials, group work and presentations.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

The number of business studies graduates fell significantly last year after a long period of increase. But there were still more than 14,000 degrees awarded and this is the third most popular subject for new graduates. Because so many graduates get business studies degrees, you can find them everywhere in the economy, and very few jobs are completely out of reach for a good business studies graduate. Around 40% go into jobs in finance, sales, recruitment, management (particularly retail) or marketing. There is also a small (but well paid) group who take their technical skills into computing and IT. Thousands of graduates from this subject go into professional jobs every year, and average starting salaries are above the average for all subjects and particularly healthy in London where they top £25k. Graduates with good degree grades in business studies are much more likely to get good jobs, so don’t be complacent, and keep a close eye on your grades.

What do graduate employment figures really tell you?

Information services covers a broad range of degree options including librarianship and museum studies, which are usually only taken by a small number of students at first degree level. These areas tend to be much more popular at postgraduate level - and with a lot of competition for jobs in libraries and museums, most (but not all) of these jobs go to holders of Masters qualifications.
