Course description

Civil Engineering is all about the design, build and maintenance of modern-day infrastructure such as roads, bridges, canals, dams and buildings. BEng degrees incorporate a substantial amount of applied mathematics. There’s also a field trip where you’ll work on a practical project to help you apply problem-solving skills.


Year 1: Engineering mathematics and modelling; Design and practice; Engineering principles; Structures and surveying. Year 2: Design and construction; Advanced engineering mathematics and modelling; Soil mechanics; Hydraulics; Theory of structures; Integrated field studies project. Year 3: BEng project; Design of an engineering system; Innovation and enterprise; Geotechnical engineering; Environmental engineering; Structural analysis and structural design.
